Do you remember when you were a kid and you couldn’t wait for summer vacation to come! It usually started around February, after all the newness of school was over and the holidays were over. Someone always seemed to start the countdown to summer. It’s like you can’t wait to get there and when it’s here you look back and try to remember what you did all year and then you’ve forgotten to plan what you want to do for your summer vacation that you then stumped and feeling a little nostalgic & slightly emotional.
I feel like as an adult that’s how the end of the year feels. You feel like you the year just flew by and you have nothing to show for it, and then the thought of planning for the next year seems so exciting, yet daunting at the same time.
Isn’t that what the new year is for, new beginnings, big changes, new challenges? But when you sit back and reflect on the year you realize just how much you’ve accomplished and how much you pushed yourself and all those people who have helped you along the way.
I’ve learned a lot about myself as an artist this past year, probably more than in previous years. I’ve gotten to travel for a workshop, taking countless online courses, met so many wonderful people and connected with people of liked mind online. This has been such an inspiring year. Sure, there have been many, many times when the days were very long, I got nothing accomplished and many conversations to my husband about what am I really doing with my life. But when he asked if I want to quit, I usually end up looking at him and telling him “no, I love what I do.”
Working from home is hard, taking care of a little human is hard, being creative is hard… but when it gets hard, I like to think of my favorite movie quote, “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard… is what makes it great.” – Jimmy Dugan (Can anyone name the movie??)
So when I look back on 2015, it was pretty darn good to me and I want to thank everyone who was apart of making it pretty darn good!! I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store. I’m hoping to hone in on my skills even more, producing beautiful images for families to cherish for years to come because that’s what’s important, we all need to start printing out our pictures and sharing them with the world. The world need to know how amazing you are!
Because 2015 was pretty fucking amazing! (excuse my language…but that’s me!)
